News

Solidarity with Ukraine
With great concern and horror we witnessed Russia's attack on Ukraine. An event that has and will continue to have worldwide repercussions.
The SI Club München-Schwabing condemns this war of aggression by Russia against Ukraine, which is contrary to international law, in the strongest possible terms. The attack also inflicts severe damage on the Russian population.
We see the terrible pictures from Ukraine every day. Women and children, who are fleeing or trying to survive under unspeakable conditions, are being hit particularly hard.
Our solidarity and sympathy therefore go out to the people of Ukraine and all those people and their relatives who are directly affected by this terrible war. We hope that this senseless, inhuman war and the suffering of the people on both sides will soon come to an end.

What topic is currently on our minds at the club?

The "Nordic Model”
At our last club evening we heard a very committed and harrowing plea for the so-called Nordic model in dealing with prostitution.
Liane Bissinger and Dr. Inge Kleine from KOFRA -the communication centre for women in work and life situations - gave us an insight into the current state of the discussion on the topic of prostitution in Germany. Contrary to what is often said, the laws on prostitution of 2002 and 2017 have not improved the situation of prostitutes in Germany, but have made it even worse.
The reality of life for the vast majority of prostitutes has nothing to do with 'Pretty Women', but is characterised by massive experience of violence, dependency, abuse and illness. Most women can only do this kind of 'work' with the help of drugs and severe physical and psychological damage. The human dignity of women is permanently trampled underfoot here.It is worthwhile to look at Scandinavia and take a closer look at the way they deal with prostitution - the so-called “Nordic model”.
